Pigmented skin lesions analysis

The Pattern analysis

The traditional diagnostic dermoscopic approach of pigmented lesions is based on the examination of morphological features and othe specific criteria such as the pigmentation and vascularization of the melanocityc formation.

However, the traditional pattern analysis remains the most efficient mothod in differential diagnosis.

Numerous dermoscopic criteria form the “dermoscopic alphabet letters”.

Nine different global features (patterns) of the lesions enable a rapid, though preliminary, classification of a pigmented lesion.

The local features instead ,as the papillary esophitic structures and the whitish central patches, are more specific.

These “letters” represents a conditio sine qua non to fully understand and learn how to perform a dermoscopic exam and to produce more research in this medical field sharing information using one “language”.
