The dermoscopic technique in clinical practice and research

Dermoscopy is the most accurate technique for the investigation of skin alterations.

This method finds application in daily dermatologic clinical practice and in research facilities dealing with skin pathologies.

Dermatologists, istopathologists and physicians from other medical specialities interested in skin tumoral lesions  benefit from the diagnostical potential of this technique especially in the decision of removing a lesion.


Dermoscopy improves the diagnostic accuracy in clinical evaluation of pigmented skin lesions and allows the physician to observe vascular structures not appreciable with the naked eye.

The morphology of vases and the distribution of the pigmentation can be easily assessed and evaluated on the basis of diagnostic criteria termed  “patterns”.


The dermoscopic technique finds application in a large number of medical specialities.


The role of this technique is well documented in post-surgery follow-up in aesthetic medicine, tumor excision surgery and in the monitoring of UVA treatment of psoriasis .

A slew of pubblications have been produced describing this technique as an unavoidable tool for the identification of pathognomic features of an increasing number of pathologies.
