The use of a computerized system allows the storage of images and it is possible to follow the lesion development with millimetric precision. Moreover, digital images of skin lesions naevi can be elaborated by using specific softwares in order to highlight particular features, gaining a more detailed insight of the lesion structure.
Benefits of remote diagnosis
In the last few years, the continuous development of computer technology fostered the introduction of a revolutionary diagnostic tool known as “telemedicine”, which is constantly improving the ability of comunication between primary care physicians and specialists, and helps to reduce costs for the people and for health system.
In several medical specialities digital images represent a crucial diagnostic support (e.g. radiology, internal medicine) and telemedicine is an already well established part of medical practice.
Teledermatology, as well, is an helpful tool especially in those areas where a specialist is not present.
An even more innovative approach consists in sending and sharing dermoscopic images of skin lesions using telematic networks (Teledermoscopy).
